Since the first COVID-19 positive person was confirmed in India, the outbreak has hit all 50 states. However, some regions have coped to keep the numbers low.
The population density in the county is 254 people per km2 so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the overall count of coronavirus cases has increased up to 147K today, Idukki still has the lowest number of cases and fatal cases in the state of Kerala.
Ernakulam and Malappuram are the state's leaders in COVID-19 positive people with 603K and 568K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Wayanad and Kasaragod have the lowest number of COVID-19 positive people in Kerala. Together with the latter ones, Idukki’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
