The population density in the county is 10 people per mi2 (3 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the overall number of coronavirus patients has reached 5,7K today, Washington County still has the lowest number of cases and fatal cases in the state of Maine.
Cumberland County and York County are the state's leaders in confirmed cases with 66K and 52K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Piscataquis County and Lincoln County have the lowest count of confirmed cases in Maine. Together with the latter ones, Washington County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
