Since the first coronavirus patient was confirmed in the U.S., the outbreak has hit all 50 states. However, some regions have managed to keep the numbers low.
The population density in the county is 160 people per mi2 (60 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the total number of COVID-19 positive people has increased up to 42 today, Dukes County still has the lowest number of cases and fatalities in the state of Massachusetts.
Middlesex County and Suffolk County are the state's leaders in confirmed cases with 437K and 268K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Nantucket County and Franklin County have the lowest number of confirmed cases in Massachusetts. Together with the latter ones, Dukes County’s per capita infection rate is considered below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
