Since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in the U.S., the virus has affected all 50 states. However, some areas have managed to keep the numbers low.
The population density in the county is 56 people per mi2 (22 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the overall number of coronavirus patients has risen up to 10K today, Union County still has the lowest count of cases and deaths in the state of South Carolina.
Greenville County and Richland County are the state's leaders in coronavirus patients with 207K and 161K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Allendale County and McCormick County have the lowest count of coronavirus patients in South Carolina. Together with the latter ones, Union County’s per capita infection rate is considered below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
