Since the first coronavirus patient was confirmed in the U.S., the virus has affected all 50 states. However, some regions have managed to keep the numbers low.
The population density in the county is 190 people per mi2 (72 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the total number of confirmed cases has risen up to 1,6K today, Avery County still has the lowest count of cases and fatalities in the state of North Carolina.
Mecklenburg County and Wake County are the state's leaders in coronavirus cases with 77K and 57K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Tyrrell County and Camden County have the lowest count of coronavirus cases in North Carolina. Together with the latter ones, Avery County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
Please note, even if your area has a low number of confirmed cases, the virus is still active. Please remain vigilant and continue with good hygiene practices.
