Since the first coronavirus case was confirmed in the U.S., the outbreak has hit all 50 states. However, some regions have coped to keep the numbers low.
The population density in the county is 60 people per mi2 (20 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the total number of COVID-19 cases has risen up to 8,8K today, Cherokee County still has the lowest number of cases and fatal cases in the state of North Carolina.
Wake County and Mecklenburg County are the state's leaders in COVID-19 positive people with 392K and 368K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Tyrrell County and Hyde County have the lowest count of COVID-19 positive people in North Carolina. Together with the latter ones, Cherokee County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
Please note, even if your county has a low number of COVID-19 positive people, the virus is still active. Please remain vigilant and continue with good hygiene practices.
