New York City is the most populous city in the United States and currently the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic. With 241K confirmed cases and 24K reported fatalities, New York City has the highest fraction of the cases than any other city or county in the U.S. If the numbers keep growing like this, over the next week the count of positive cases will probably get up to 245K.

Covid-19 spreads most easily when people are in close proximity, and since New York's population density is the highest in the country with 27,751 people per mi2 (10,715 people per km2), it can be considered one of the reasons why the city has been hit so hard by the deadly virus.

The total number of reported coronavirus cases in New York City and its four suburban counties: Westchester, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk - surpassed those by any country other than the United States. Moreover, in New York City, the Covid-19 death rate is 10%, which is higher than in most other areas of the U.S.

As New York continues to experience an outbreak of SARS-CoV-2, it is imperative that NYC dwellers are prepared and informed during this time. You can find more information on basic protective measures and most common Covid-19 symptoms below.
