Since the first COVID-19 positive person was confirmed in the U.S., the infection has affected all 50 states. However, some regions have coped to keep the numbers low.

The population density in the county is 2 people per mi2 (1 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the total number of confirmed cases has increased up to 16 today, Sierra County still has the lowest number of cases and fatal cases in the state of New Mexico.

McKinley County and Bernalillo County are the state's leaders in coronavirus patients with 3,7K and 3,2K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Harding County and Mora County have the lowest number of coronavirus patients in New Mexico. Together with the latter ones, Sierra County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.

Please note, even if your area has a low number of COVID-19 positive people, the virus is still active. Please remain vigilant and continue with good hygiene practices.
