Since the first COVID-19 positive person was confirmed in the U.S., the disease has hit all 50 states. However, some areas have coped to keep the numbers low.

The population density in the county is 2 people per mi2 (1 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the total count of coronavirus cases has risen up to 783 today, Sierra County still has the lowest count of cases and fatalities in the state of New Mexico.

Bernalillo County and Doña Ana County are the state's leaders in coronavirus cases with 60K and 25K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Harding County and Catron County have the lowest number of coronavirus cases in New Mexico. Together with the latter ones, Sierra County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.

Please note, even if your area has a low number of coronavirus patients, the virus is still active. Please stay vigilant and keep up with good hygiene practices.
