The population density in the county is 2 people per mi2 (0 people per km2) so the risk of infection is below average. Even though the overall number of COVID-19 positive people has increased up to 499 today, Modoc County still has the lowest count of cases and deaths in the state of California.

Los Angeles County and Riverside County are the state's leaders in confirmed cases with 1,2M and 299K patients with confirmed infection accordingly, while Alpine County and Sierra County have the lowest number of confirmed cases in California. Together with the latter ones, Modoc County’s per capita infection rate is regarded below average, but the coronavirus still remains a threat to public safety.
